Detailed Description
The GWR pioneered the use of diesel railcars for passenger traffic in the 1930s. The most numerous variant was the batch built in 1940-42 with its distinctive angular ‘razor edge’ bodywork. Employed on branch lines and local services, they were the perfect single vehicle passenger train and continued to provide sterling service until replaced by BR DMUs in the early-1960s. This model features separately switchable headlamps, tail lights, saloon and cab lights and a fully detailed interior.

Incredible value for money
The GWR AEC Railcar in Chocolate and Cream livery is one of the best bargains I have purchased recently in OO gauge. At £99.98, it represents exceptional value for money and is a model that far exceeds expectations at this price point.
What makes it even more impressive is the pricing. This model carried a recommended retail price of £234, meaning Heljan is now selling it at around 57% below its original RRP. Even compared with today's discounted retailer prices, it remains outstanding value. Rails of Sheffield are currently asking £159.50, making the Heljan direct price £59.52 cheaper.
The Chocolate and Cream livery is beautifully applied and, for me, is the most attractive version of this iconic railcar. The paint finish is excellent, the glazing is crisp, and the model benefits from a detailed interior along with interior and cab lighting that really bring it to life.
The level of detail throughout is superb and compares very favourably with models costing significantly more. It certainly doesn't feel like a £99 model. In fact, I was so impressed that I purchased three different versions: the Chocolate and Cream example, the Crimson version, and the GWR Green version.
Heljan deserve credit for making models like this available directly to customers at prices that many thought were no longer possible. Whatever debates exist within the hobby about direct sales, the customer is clearly the winner when quality models are offered at prices like this.
A beautifully finished model, packed with detail, excellent lighting features, and incredible value for money. Highly recommended.

Absolutely beautiful model and runs well
I have owned a Lima Railcar for years. The Heljan model knocks it into a cocked hat. It runs smoothly a quietly in both directions. The paint job and detailing is excellent. The lighting works well in both directions. I have wanted one of these models ever since it was featured in Railway Modeller. The original price we too high for my pocket. This model is worth more than £100.00. Well done Heljan/Accurascale.

The railcar is fine a bit noisy in reverse it was a job to get the body off but ok
Model looks good and runs fine,good for the price managed to get all the light functions working using a Esu lokpilot decoder
