Car Transporters - OO Scale

Newton Chambers motorail vans were a distinctive fleet of double-deck car transporters built for British Railways in 1960–61 by Newton, Chambers & Co. for its Eastern Region. Fourteen of these unique bogie vehicles were constructed to carry six cars each, with a hydraulically-operated central well holding two cars and four on the upper deck. Originally coded TCV (Two-Tier Motor Car Van), they were later reclassified as NVV and NVX under BR’s TOPS system. Initially in lined maroon, they were repainted in blue-grey with Motorail branding from 1966 as part of British Rail’s long-distance car-carrying services. They served into the 1980s before withdrawal at the decade’s end.
