The British Rail Class 24 diesel locomotives were built between 1958 and 1961 by the British Railways at their famous Derby Works. Designed as part of British Railways’ Modernisation Plan, they handled mixed-traffic duties across the UK. Reliable but modest in power, many later moved to secondary services before withdrawal during the late 1970s, with 97201 living on at the Railway Technical Centre, Derby.
Our Class 24 is a highly detailed O scale model of this classic British Rail Type 2 diesel. This O Scale weathered locomotive model receives outstanding praise from customers. Reviewers highlight "amazing detail" and "realistic weathering" that adds character without being overdone. An excellent example of the class 24. The detail is amazing. A weighty model, so will pull well.
I went for this version because of the weathering. Not being confident to do it myself and possibly spoiling it . The factory weathering looks brilliant, adding realism to the model, without overdoing it, and I suppose someone with the skill could add heavier should they wish , but personally I think it's sufficient. See photos, just like the real ones looked 😀

A really nice detailed model, looks great and looking forward to running it soon. It came well packaged with a number of additional parts to detail it. A great purchase and another very nice Heljan model.
Absolutely delighted with this Class 24. I model the early 1970s transition period, and this loco fits perfectly among my BR green and blue fleet. The finish has real character, especially with the applied weathering, giving the impression of a hard-working Type 2 rather than a display-cabinet model.
The level of detail and the sheer presence you get in O gauge make these Heljan diesels a fantastic value. Looking forward to adding sound and getting it earning its keep on freight duties!
Excellent, I'd forgotten it was weathered until it arrived - it looks great. Haven't had chance to use it yet, but I'm sure it'll be good.
Excellent loco nothing amiss I can say like wise the O2.
Only my second o gauge loco, runs great after running in🙂only fault was a broken off buffer which was easily fixed. Very good weathering, so a great loco for the money 👍

First class model.
My second Heljan 24; this one in a livery that I think really suited the 24s as I remember them from the late 60s and very early 70s even though they were generally filthy. Superb loco - more please.
