Klasse 86 - InterCity Hovedlinje - 86417 - OO Skala

This is a stunning model, I especially like the cab ends and the pantograph lift and closes manually without any fuss at all.

Well packaged in a sturdy box it ran quietly and smoothly from the start
The application of the livery was very crisp plus all the added detail on the ends makes this a very impressive model of a very versatile engine.

Great loco at a very good price. Runs well and looks great on my layout. I would like it if the front details were not fitted as it was a bit difficult fitting the couplings.

Great loco, could be easier to take body off and pipe work fitted at both ends need to be cut down to put coupling in, would be nice to have detail pipe pack that was shorter to fit when couplings are fitted.

I appreciate that this model was produced under the previous management, but it is a reasonable reproduction of the original. I don't know if it is a sign of age, but both this and another Class 86 ordered at the same time suffered from a split gear on one of the wheel axles. This meant that both Class 86s were very noisy. However, these faults were reported to Heljan, new management, and they were promptly replaced. Unfortunately, both replacements have the same problem. Rather than return again, I am going to wait until spares arrive and request replacements when that happens. In the meantime, I have removed the offending gears, one per model, and both models run smoothly and silently.

The poor quality of Heljan gears are well known, but hopefully the new management will address this issue for future models. I have given a higher rating than I might otherwise to reflect the very quick and prompt after care provided by the new management.

Great model and even better to get it at a reduced price.

I own a few of this class of loco from Heljan and was always very happy with them, and this one was no exception.

I do wish they didn’t fit the detailing parts at either end as you have to remove to use the NEM socket.

No etched name plates, which is a little disappointing.

However the new price point for these models make them at reach for all and the detailing for the price is sublime.

The livery finish is crisp and has no issues. The molded detailing has good depth and is crisp.

The pantograph is possible, but has a robust feel to it. Wiper blades a little clunky and the roof has some intricate parts. The cabs are detailed and elements are picked out in different colours through clear glass.

All in all this model is very good and won’t look out of place on the layout.

Etched name plates and BR arrows included would have been nice though as third party manufactured ones may not be exactly the right size to fit over the printed ones. Not a big issue though. Paint finish is spot on!

analogue,no red lights.is this correct.My new heljan47s do have red lights on analogue

Arrived in good time, loco runs beautifully straight out of the box, a lovely model, fits in well with the rest of my stock, definitely worth the price,

Nothing much to complain about at the price ... though I will mention the really tight fitting body and the moulded TDM cables, other than that it's a great model. Though I'm not a fan of the pre-fitted bufferbeam details.

So far so good - needed to be run in as was a little hesitant and jerky straight out of the box. However, after an hour of running in it is smooth and quiet. Well worth £100

The best 86 available with faultless running. Shame the red marker lights are not on a separate switch for DC use. Fantastic value for under a hundred quid though!

My score would be much higher if the body was easier to remove to fit the DCC decoder. I almost returned the model after my first efforts at removal eventually managed to get it off but not before breaking a pipe and a small crack in the corner of the body. I have fitted in excess of 100 decoders over the years and this was by far the worst to remove. The fixing of the buffer beam items is also a negative for me as I found it impossible to remove to fix coupling without breaking. Good model spoiled by lack of engineering thought.

Whisper quiet motor is a joy and the detailed pipework fitted to both ends is great to see. Just the pantograph feeling a little over scale (but more resilient as a result, I suspect) hold it back from a 5* review.

Lovely loco, in a fantastic livery, and purchased at a bargain price. It's my 5th Heljan Class 86, and have another on pre-order. I can't get enough of them.

Very quiet runner, good value very impressed and pleased I purchased this item.

Overall lovely model for the price,looks good and runs very well you would think that would be the end of the review.My major gripe with this model is body removal,the body was so tightly fitted tried cocktail sticks,cards glue slogers under the 4 clips shaking it 40 minutes later the body came off but only by putting tweezers into the nem socket and pulling down same time as the cards under the clips,fingers aching for days after.I must have around 120 models and never had one as difficult to remove as this it really could do with a redesign.
