Arrived quickly (to Australia). Outer box was damaged but product box OK. Lovely model with no visible signs of problems, but no bag of accessaries was included and the direction lights did not work on DC (Not yet tested on DCC). Loco moves smoothly and is responsive on DC.

At current prices, this is a LOT of small-yard shunter for not-much money. The short wheelbase means you can run it anywhere, but the model still has a LOT of presence and character. It also has enough torque to shift prototypical consists, and does-so even over the rail-gappy old layout I use it on.
Had I paid the full original price, the detailing and finish would strike me as acceptable, but perhaps not outstanding; at current retail - bargain!
This example can be a reluctant starter with larger loads - the wheels need *regular* cleaning.
All told it's a very handsome model, and a very useful one. O-gauge layouts tend to be smaller, have tight radiuses and multiple points - and this is a great loco for those purposes, as well as for more conventional running.
Get one while you can!

A mixed bag. The front handrails are not modelled accurately, and a few detail parts were fitted crooked or fell off soon after purchase. The side rods have been cast from a soft metal and one rod was noticeably curved. Having straightened this up the model runs well. The presentation of the bodywork is excellent and the cab glazing is some of the best I have ever seen. The model is very good for the price, but I would prefer to pay more money for fewer compromises in the detailing and the chassis.

Lovely model unfortunately the lights don't work properly 3 of the lamps behind the buffer beam so they glow through the red plastic beam

Finding small locos for O-gauge micro layouts is a challenge.

The latest realignment of prices within the Heljan range has made both the Ruston DS48 and the British Railways Class 02 available at a better price for the cash strapped modeller i fact you can almost buy both for the price of one.

The subject of this comment is the Class02 designed to work on Mersey docks and other railways that required locomotive to manage sharp radius curves. Finished in a nice satin bronze green livery the model presents a typical locomotive prior to disposal to private owners of which there many.

The model is supplied with manufactuer's name plate for the radiator plate and a builder plate which can be read if you have a good magnifier.
Coupling is by the accurate and to a degree frustrating 3-link chains, the paint on the chains is not the best, I have found it chips and tangles just a little too easily.
Whilst some disassembly is needed to fit the DCC chip sound stay-alive and driver there is space to swallow all but the largest of stay alive capacitors on the floor of the cab.
I have found O-gauge small loco's are more convincing than the OO versions of the same model simply because the fine detail is easier to create for an O-gauge model.
I have yet to experiment with minimum radius curves but this may restricted by the unsprung buffers the model is supplied with, most of the traditional four wheel rolling stock should pass around a curve radius of 860mm or R0 in set track terms.
Overall I like the model and I would consider another to create a brake-van special for my modular micro layout.

Great little O gauge loco, very pleased with it. Great price and quality looks spot on. Runs very well on shuttle test track i have, test run for an hour to bed motor in.
Its a heavy loco for the size pulls several wagons no bother, was going for the BR blue but sold out, glad i got this loco.
10/10 score.

Stunning little O gauge loco which will form the basis of a micro layout at some point in the future!

Another lovely thing! It would be 5 stars if it wasn't for a few quality assurance niggles: my model arrived with a missing bonnet cover, missing screws (under the cab), slightly bent/warped rear handrails and brake-rigging; poorly fitting/bent baseplate (opening/recess for light switch too small). I resolved most of these myself but - the best customer service I have experienced in a long time! - resolved the missing bonnet cover. Well done, Heljan/Accurascale!
